A factory-owned auto parts company in Ontario will create 300 new jobs over the next five years.
The growth of AGS Automotive Systems and its local branch, AGS/Tiercon, will invest $62 million in new equipment, product research and employee training.
The provincial government supported the initiative with a grant of $6 million (

Economic Development Minister Sandra Paltrow said yesterday in announcing the grant: \"The company has a big plan for new technologies and new jobs, and it\'s just music in our ears.

The J2 president said Tiercon\'s sales this year were $45 million, double the total last year, and he hopes the new research efforts will pay off well.

Loparco added that the new products and processes generated by these efforts will determine how the new work will spread across the company\'s operations.
\"At a time when the industry is very challenging, AGS and Tiercon are rebuilding,\" he said . \".
\"We entered the industry during the restructuring because we saw significant opportunities and were involved in the transformation.
When many others are not ready, we have a vision of success.
He said that reversing the two failed companies requires \"excessive\" focus on quality improvement, cost reduction, and a growing commitment to new product and process Research.
\"We believe that R & D and innovation are absolutely critical to our future,\" he said . \".
A focus of the study will be on alternative energy and energy conservation, he said.
\"It\'s not only helping global warming, it\'s also helping our cost structure,\" Loparco said . \".
\"Every time we do this, it is good not only for the environment, but also for our cost structure.
Pupatello said in an interview that the government\'s contribution to the project is a key factor in ensuring Ontario\'s share of growth in an important industry.
\"The Hamilton region is the main beneficiary of the automotive investment strategy.
\"So whether we\'re talking about steel companies or choosing car assemblers in Ontario, it\'s good for Hamilton,\" she said . \".
\"Some derivatives are not obvious to the public, but they are absolutely there.
\"Most of Hamilton\'s steel is finally on our car,\" she added . \".
\"Without a car investment strategy, we will not be able to get those investments.
\"The province\'s investment comes from a $0. 5 billion fund set up by the Ontario government in 2004.
So far, the fund\'s grants have attracted $7 billion in investments from companies such as Ford, GM and Linamar in Guelph.
AGS and Tiercon have factories in Oshawa, Toronto, Cambridge, Windsor and Stoney Creek.
J2 Management purchased the AG car system of the previous AG Simpson Company in December 2002.
In addition to the Tiercon plant at Stoney Creek, it also acquired the plants in the state of Luis Anna, Michigan and Oshawa.
The company specializes in producing exposed steel impact systems such as automotive metal stamping parts and bumpers.
